Dish for Cucumber c1920s
This dish was designed for those, who took their salads in high style, and is specifically for serving a complete sliced cucumber. The shape is amazing, ridged and indented, apparently to replicate a cucumber plant leaf, but in a much elongated form. At 15.75 ins very elongated! The dish is recorded in the Spode catalogue of the day as Ameer shape, which is an old alternative spelling of Emir, an eastern ruler. These dishes are extremely rare and Andrew Richards, collector and publisher of The Italian Collector, has recorded only two surviving Ameer cucumber dishes in thirty years of research, so this makes number three. The glaze has light crazing, from it would appear simply age, as there is no staining and it is in superb condition. Typical blue printed oval backstamp Copeland, Spode's Italian, England.

Presentation Bowl c1928
This is an extremely impressive bowl measuring 15.25 inches in diameter and 3 ins high, so quite shallow. It is not a standard Spode shape and we have been told by Spode that as it was hand thrown and turned rather than moulded, it is unlikely more than about 50 were ever made. On back is the blue printed inscription With W T Lamb & Sons Compliments Xmas 1928. This is believed to be W T Lamb & Sons the architectural brick makers at Billingshurst in Sussex, who in 1928 supplied 4000 specially made bricks to Winston Churchill for him to lay personally at Chartwell. Perhaps Mr Churchill was a recipient of one of these bowls. The bowl is decorated internally and externally and is in superb condition. The only maker's backstamp is the top half of a blue printed Copeland late Spode seal mark.

One of the wells has an inside rim chip not noticeable when the cover is in place.
On the back is the blue printed inscription With W T Lamb & Sons Compliments Xmas 1928. This is W T Lamb & Sons the architectural brick makers at Billingshurst in Sussex, who in 1928 supplied 4000 specially made bricks to Winston Churchill for him to lay personally at Chartwell. Perhaps Mr Churchill was a recipient of one of these bowls. The bowl is decorated internally and externally and is in superb condition. The only maker's backstamp is the top half of a blue printed Copeland late Spode seal mark.
