Butter Dish with Cover c1815
Bridge is a willow pattern style design with one person on the bridge and another about to get on. It was made by several makers including Minton and Spode and was introduced about 1808. Later at Spode it was also known as Queen Charlotte pattern. There are no maker's backstamps to this butter dish and we have not attributed a maker, but it is beautiful pearl ware and clearly from a quality potter. There is just a chance that the dish itself was an early replacement to match the cover and base, but if so they have been together for nearly 200 years! Generally a few signs of use and age. The glaze to the stand is crazed. There is a tiny flake off the rim of the dish and minor chips and frits to the inside rim of the cover. Otherwise a gorgeous display item, bright and clean, and an extremely rare survivor from a much earlier age. Stand 5.875 ins 15 cm diameter.

This pattern, particularly associated with Davenport and Minton, was in fact made by several makers and is also known as Hermit and Man in Doorway. This plate has a distinctive version of the design, but the maker has not been identified. This pattern is discussed in Minton Printed Pottery by Geoffrey Priestman and a similar plate is ilustrated on page 53, plate 4.11. On the rim there is a tiny chip at 11 o'clock and a few rubs and nicks, plus a small glazing fault on the border. Just in the bowl is a short firing crack, which occurred during manufacture. All really minor and a bright and clean plate in good condition. No maker's backstamp. Provenance: The personal collection of Gresham Copeland, passing by descent to his son Robert Copeland. Collection identification label on back AGC 88. This plate is illustrated in Spode's Willow Pattern by Robert Copeland page 157, plate 27, where it is attributed to Davenport.

Basket with Stand c1800
An absolutely gorgeous basket and stand so delicately assembled that it is a wonder it has survived all of these years. This design is also known as Temple Landscape and is recorded as made by Spode, Wolfe and Garner, but there are differences of detail on the engravings used by these makers, which often enables the maker of a particular piece to be identified. This basket and stand appear to be by another as yet unidentified maker as the engraving does not match any of the known makers. No backstamp. Blue painted potters mark of large tick or V with one arm longer than the other. The stand has light crazing with just a hint of discolouration and there are a few minor hairlines to the pierced rim. The basket has light crazing with a little minor discolouration underneath, but overall excellent condition.
