| Maker: Spode Pattern:Parasol Figure Meat Dish or Platter with tree and well c1884 Parasol Figure pattern is an early 19th Century Chinese landscape design, named after the solitary figure on the bridge, who carries a parasol. This platter, in fluted Chelsea shape, was made about 1884 and the design is printed in Mandarin blue on Copeland Spodes B body cream coloured earthenware. There is gilt line decoration to the rim, which is a little worn in places, but overall this platter is almost as new.
Impressed backstamp Copeland curved over B, date mark for October 1884 and diamond registration mark for 15 November 1879, which was the registration of the Chelsea shape.

| Maker: Spode Pattern:Rock Dish Asparagus and Butter c1800 The original intended use for these dishes is believed to be serving asparagus, accompanied by melted butter in the covered pot, which is a fixed part of the dish.
There is no maker's backstamp on this dish, although an identical one is illustrated on page 52, plate 21 of Spode's Willow Pattern by Robert Copeland. He attributes it to Spode, because the border design is believed to be unique to Spode and the handle on the cover is a Spode shape.
Only a small part of the main design appears on this piece, but it appears to be Rock pattern, which included a Willow tree and adjoining building, reminiscent of Willow Pattern. Rock which was produced with this border, was an early Spode Chinoiserie design and this dish dates from 1790 to 1810.
There is a little area of rubbing to the rim of the dish, light crazing to the glaze of the cover, which has an old small unsprung chip under the rim. Apart from these few signs of age it looks virtually unused.
This is a rare piece in oustanding condition, which deserves pride of place in any collection. Dimensions: 31 x 15 cm 7 cm overall height / 12 x 5.75 ins 2.75 ins overall height
