| Maker: Wood and Challinor Pattern:Continental Views Series Lunch Plate Simplon c1835 Wood and Challinor of Tunstall, Staffordshire were active 1828 to 1845 and their Continental Views Series, consists of named European scenes. Many travellers have arrived in Italy from Switzerland via the Simplon Pass, using a road that was begun in 1800 under Napoleon. Today though they are just as likely to be on a train hurtling through the Simplon Tunnel. This scene appears to be previously unrecorded and shows the Swiss village of Simplon-Dorf set amongst the mountains.

The glaze is finely crazed, but otherwise excellent condition.

Wood and Challinor of Tunstall, Staffordshire were active 1828 to 1845 and their Continental Views Series, consists of named European scenes. This scene depicts the Castle of Chillon, which is an island castle located at the east end of Lake Geneva and was made famous by Byron's poem The Prisoner of Chillon. Byron carved his name in one of the dungeons.

Light all over crazing and on the back a little minor discolouration.
