| Maker: Unattributed Maker Pattern:Two Guns Rural Scene Jug or Pitcher c1820 This is a magnificent jug, of good size, with a panoramic English rural scene. Often jugs have the same scene repeated on the two sides, but here starting from the handle there is a large tree and ornate cottage, two gentlemen with shot guns and a couple of dogs, a drover with cattle, another cottage and two conical straw stacks, all set within rolling countryside of meadows, hedges and trees. The border design is of grapes and vine leaves combined with what appear to be gooseberries and foliage. Despite extensive research and enquiry this appears to be a previously unrecorded pattern and has now been entered in the Transferware Collectors Club Database under this given pattern name of Two Guns Rural Scene.

The glaze is crazed and underneath, this has taken-up associated light staining. Also underneath, the foot rim has some wear, rubs and minor nibbles. Overall, this is lovely and in fine condition taking into account its age and original utilitarian purpose. A bright and clean piece.
