Maker: Unattributed Maker  Pattern:Chalees Satoon
Dinner Plate c1820
The main elements of this scene are derived from an aquatint in Volume I of Oriental Scenery by Thomas and William Daniell published in 1795. The full title is The Chalees Satoon in the Fort of Allahabad on the River Jumna. The building was a pleasure pavilion open on all sides to admit cool breezes and the name translated means Hall of 40 Pillars. At least three potters produced this pattern and this version is by an unattributed maker and is the one without the elephant. The glaze is finely crazed, but is still bright and this plate is in excellent condition. There is no maker's backstamp.
