The scene depicts Nuneham Courtenay, Oxfordshire, the seat of the Earl Harcourt, set in grounds laid out by Capability Brown around 1780. This plate is attributed to Toft & May as it was acquired along with an identical plate, which bore an impressed Toft & May backstamp. The partnership was at the Charles Street Works, Hanley, Staffordshire from 1825 to 1829 No maker's backstamp. A little very minor surface scratching, otherwise excellent condition.
