Mug c1825
This design is also known as Gate leading to Musjed at Chunar Ghur, which is a town and ancient fortress in the Mirzapur district of India and is based on an aquatint in Oriental Scenery by Thomas Daniell. A pattern more often associated with the Rogers factory, this mug is by Dixon Austin & Co of the Sunderland or Garrison Pottery at Sunderland. The quality of the Dixon Austin engraving is probably better than that of Rogers. This is in superb condition, although right on the rim itself there are two areas where the glaze and colour have worn off and a small area, where the glaze has curtained in manufacture, but these are minor and the mug gleams almost like new. No makers backstamp.
Dimensions: 0.7 ltr 11 cm high 10.5 cm diameter / 1.25 pints 4.5 ins high 4ins diameter
