| Maker: Spode Pattern:Unidentified Pattern colour Plate c1880 This plate is an enigma. It has pretty hand painted floral decoration and on the back an impressed Copeland and 40, which tells us it was made at the Copeland Spode works between 1847 and 1958! Our thought is that the plate was made in the white by Copeland, but may have been decorated elsewhere? Or it may be a Copeland trial piece, which is why it has no pattern number or printed backstamp? An attractive plate with an intriguing history. Provenance: The George Worlock Collection.
