Soup Tureen c1820
A magnificent soup tureen complete with cover and stand, in this ever popular and collected series. The tureen has The Hog at Bay on each side and the stand and cover have Hunting a Buffalo. Backstamps: Tureen has impressed SPODE 46, plus blue printed SPODE and B. Stand has impressed SPODE 9 and blue printed SPODE and title Hunting a Buffalo. Cover has impressed SPODE 45 and blue printed SPODE. Provenance the collection of A Gresham Copeland and by descent to his son T Robert Copeland. Tureen and cover have collection labels AGC 377 and the stand AGC 454. Tureen: Outside the glaze is largely sound, but there are some lines of crazing in places and inside it is finely crazed. There is a short hairline in the bulge of the body and a stress crack from firing inside. A few rubs to handles. Cover: A rim chip at 8 o'clock and another on the spoon cut-out, along with its associated wandering hairline have all been professionally restored. The glaze is crazed. Stand: The glaze is crazed, with some patches of light associated staining, mainly in the sky. Overall: Because of their purpose and size it is almost impossible to find completely perfect examples and it would be difficult to find a better complete set than this one.

Backstamp: Blue printed Common Wolf Trap, Spode impressed and printed. Some wear to rim and utensil marks, but overall fine.

Backstamp: Death of the Bear and printed and impressed Spode. The glaze is finely crazed with a hint of associated staining in places, but generally bright.

Spode's famous Indian Sporting Series, here in their very own early 20th Century reproduction. This scene is known more fully as Syces or grooms leading out horses. Lovely plate with arcaded rim. Backstamp: Copeland Late Spode seal mark and impressed date for 1910. Crazed and a little minor wear to the outer rim.

Plate Groom Leading Out c1912
Spode's famous Indian Sporting Series, here in their very own early 20th Century reproduction. This scene is known more fully as Syces or grooms leading out horses. Lovely plate with arcaded rim. Backstamp: Brown printed Copeland Late Spode Seal mark and impressed date for 1912. A little crazing on the back and a little mottling to the rim otherwise excellent condition.

Plate Groom Leading Out c1910
Spode's famous Indian Sporting Series, here in their very own early 20th Century reproduction. This scene is known more fully as Syces or grooms leading out horses. This plate has a pierced arcaded rim and inner basket weave border. The glaze is crazed and has taken up a little light staining, but there is no damage, which is unusual in these finely made plates. One of those pieces that looks fine on display. Blue printed Copeland late Spode seal mark, impressed Spode Imperial mark ? and impressed date mark for May 1910.

Broth Bowl The Dead Hog c1820
Fabulous 2 handled cup which originally would have had a saucer and lid. The scene is The Dead Hog. Backstamp: Spode. Light all over crazing with some wear to the rim and to the foot rim. Inside there is a small manufacturing fault to the rim and a few minor blemishes. Sounds much worse than it looks!

Soup Plate Chase After a Wolf c1820
A good example from Spode's ever popular Indian Sporting series. This soup plate is in excellent condition. There are some utensil marks, rubs to the rim and one tiny rim nick and a couple of areas of crazing on the back, where the glaze pooled during manufacture. Otherwise as bright and clean as when it was made. Impressed backstamp Spode 28 and blue printed Chase after a Wolf.

Drainer Hunting a Buffalo c1820
An unusually small drainer in Spodes famous Sporting Series. Backstamp: Blue printed and impressed Spode. A little very minor discolouration around a couple of the holes, minor wear to the outer rim and a faint star hairline on the back which does not go through, overall excellent condition.

Pickle Dish The Dead Hog c1820
Charming small pickle tray, which is decorated with part of The Dead Hog scene. Backstamp: blue printed SPODE. Provenance: The personal collection of Gresham Copeland, passing by descent to his son Robert Copeland. Collection identification label on back AGC 491. Excellent condition. The glaze is still sound and bright.
