| Maker: Spode Pattern:Caramanian Series Meat Dish or Platter Antique Fragments at Limisso c1901 This is a quirky rarity, Spode's own re-issue of their famous Caramanian pattern. The central scene is the familiar Antique Fragments at Limisso, but juxtaposed here with the border from Italian pattern. Presumably as this is on the rectangular shape of dish, rather than the oval used originally for Caramanian, there was no Caramanian border available of the right dimensions. Printed in the beautiful deep blue of the originals.
Backstamp: Seal mark with Copeland late Spode and impressed date code for January 1901.
In the printing there are some areas of surplus blue, where the transfer has been "made" to fit and some scuffs on the left side. The glaze is finely crazed, but despite this the platter shines almost like new. Excellent condition. Dimensions: 37.5 x 29 cm / 14.75 x 11.25 ins
