This comport or vegetable dish probably came originally with a lid. It is decorated with the rarely seen Byron Groups design, which is a combination of the Warwick Groups centre and Byron Views border. Decorated, both inside and out. White gadroon rims. The unusual feature is that included in the centre is H P Hudson Trinity College on a ribbon. This is Trinity College, Cambridge and H P Hudson was the College Cook, a self-employed caterer, responsible for not only feeding the College Fellows and Undergraduates, but also for providing the china they ate off. Henry Hudson is recorded as Cook from 1834 to 1854 and Philip Hudson from 1854 to 1859 and probably later. Blue printed Copeland backstamp and rare impressed backstamp of a crown over Copeland with B beneath, suggesting a date of around 1860. This print is illustrated in Canadian Historic Sites - Spode/Copeland Transfer-Printed Patterns by Lynne Sussman page 68 plate 68. This dish has had a life, there is general wear, especially to the rim, a chip on the inner rim and another under the outer rim. The foot rim has wear, a large nick and minor hairline. The glaze is still generally bright and clean. A piece of mid-nineteeth century English University history.

Meat Dish or Platter Patras c1840
The three volume work Landscape and Portrait Illustrations to the Life and Works of Lord Byron was issued in 1832-1834 and published by John Murray, who also published Byron's works. The engravings were by Edward and William Finden and based on paintings by well known contemporary artists such as Clarkson, Stanfield, Fielding and Turner. It was a work that epitomised the Grand Tour and illustrated places in Europe associated with the famous poet.
