Teabowl and Saucer c1840
William Smith Stockton on Tees. Absolutely charming teabowl and saucer with bird motif to the centre of the saucer and inside to the base of the bowl. Backstamp: W S & Co No 21 and impressed W S & Co's Wedgewood. (An injunction was taken out in 1848 preventing the use of Wedgwood on Smiths wares, whatever the spelling!) To the saucer there is a little surface scratching and a small piece of grit in the glaze, and on the back one or two lines of crazing and a little very minor discolouration. The bowl in excellent condition.
