Dessert Dish heart shape c1840
By William Smith & Co of Stafford Pottery, Stockton-on-Tees Cleveland active 1825 to 1855 and decorated with Basket of Flowers pattern, which has an intriguing border design, printed in green on a beautiful heart shaped dish with pretty moulded pierced handle. A similar dish is illustrated on page 100 of Encylopedia of British Transfer-Printed Patterns 1790-1930 by Gillian Neale. No maker's backstamp. A few signs of wear, a tiny nick under the rim and small stress crack in the foot rim, which occurred during firing, The glaze is mainly sound and this piece is in excellent condition.
