William Ridgway. Fabulous stoneware jug with the tale of Tam O Shanter told in relief moulded detail around the body. The design was inspired by Landseer's illustrations to Robert Burn's Tam O'Shanter published in 1830. A similar jug is illustrated on page 161 of Ridgway Porcelains by Geoffrey Godden. Backstamp: impressed Published by W Ridgway & Co Hanley October 1 1835. Excellent condition.
