This pattern is rather an enigma as it was given the name Gazebo in recent times, owing to the prominent gazebo to the right of the scene, which stands over the steps down to the underground icehouse. Subsequently, once the house in the view was established as Wiseton Hall, Nottinghamshire, the pattern name became Wiseton Hall.
No backstamp.
Crazed with some discolouration although this is mainly on the back and a horizontal hairline along the indent of the rim.

Backstamp: Impressed H.
Surface scratching with wear and discolouration to the outer rim and on the back and loss of glaze to the stilt marks. This plate has seen life, but a wonderful opportunity to own an example of this lovely pattern.

This pattern is rather an enigma as it was given the name Gazebo in recent times, owing to the prominent gazebo to the right of the scene, which stands over the steps down to the underground icehouse. Subsequently, once the house in the view was established as Wiseton Hall, Nottinghamshire, the pattern name became Wiseton Hall, but then another version was recorded with the contemporary printed pattern name Cattle Scenery, so you take your pick! A plate has been found marked Pettys & Co Leeds and from 1814 to 1845 Samuel Petty, father and son, worked the Hunslet Hall Pottery, Holbeck, Leeds in Yorkshire trading under various partnerships. A successor partnership Leather & Wardle active 1845 to 1849 also produced this pattern and marked it Cattle Scenery, which may have been its factory name all along. Davenport also produced this design, although there are differences in detail.
Backstamp: no maker's backstamp, only a large impressed sunburst.
Some lines of crazing to the glaze, but overall excellent condition. The transfer was torn in the bottom left of the border, when it was laid down.
