Inspired by the romantic art of the French rococo artist Jean-Antoine Watteau (1684-1721), this is one of twelve different scenes in this series, which was given the factory pattern number 12, thus it is one of the first Minton pictorial tile series. Introduced about 1845 it was still in production in 1885, so precise dating of individual tiles can be problematic.
Backstamp: embossed Mintons China Works Stoke on Trent.
Crazed with a little very minor pitting around the rim. There are a couple of minor chips to the side which do not affect the face of the tile so overall excellent condition.

Crazed with a little damage to two of the corners. There is a small chip to the lower rim and some damage to the side which shows through to the front of the tile. Some cement is still attached to the back. Sounds much worse than it looks, this is a lovely tile.
