This is a most attractive round bowl, on quite a prominent foot, decorated with a beautiful country scene with a ruined abbey and river, with bridge and boat. A gentleman and his lady are promenading along the riverside walk. Both inside and outside the bowl is a broad border of large roses and passion flowers, with associated foliage. All printed in a rather pale delicate shade of blue.
There is no maker's backstamp, only a small impressed cypher, which is probably the workman's stamp.
This pattern features in An Illustrated Guide to Minton Printed Pottery by Geoffrey H Priestman on page 140. It is suggested the abbey may be Kirkstall Abbey in Yorkshire.
There is some fine crazing to the glaze, but hardly any signs of use and it is in magnificent condition, almost as new.
