Maker: Minton  Pattern:Benevolent Cottagers
Dessert Dish c1820
This design is now usually attributed to Minton, certainly the quality of the engraving, printing and potting of this piece are of their high quality. The scene itself is derived from a painting The Benevolent Cottagers by Sir Augustus Wall Callcott RA 1779-1844 and before the discovery of the source painting this pattern was known as Hospitality. No backstamp as is usual. There is a hairline running down from the rim just into the bowl from the top right point. It is so tight it is virtually invisible without use of a magnifying glass. There is an old chip on the foot rim and a few signs of wear and use, but very minor. Overall, this is a bright clean piece, with sound glaze and will display beautifully.
