Maker: Mellor Venables  Pattern:Windsor
Ewer c1849
On both sides of the ewer is a view of Windsor Castle with the Royal standard flying from the famous tower overlooking the Thames. On the river there is the Royal Barge propelled by oarsmen and on the banks a trio of costumed figures. The border on this lovely ewer is made up of fine concentric lines overlaid with a pattern of twining stems covered with morning glories, tendrils and leaves. All printed in a pale shade of blue. No backstamp, but definitely Mellor Venables & Co. They registered this design on 27 August 1849 and their business closed in 1851, which dates it rather precisely. The glaze is crazed and there are a few minor signs of wear to the handle and a possible small minor hairline to the foot. Little light staining inside. Fine decorative item with historic interest.
Dimensions: 27.5 cm high / 10.75 ins high
