| Maker: Mellor Venables Pattern:Whampoa Cheese Stand c1840 Whampoa as a pattern name comes from China. There are two similar flow blue designs with this name, one by Mellor Venables & Co and the other by the Cambrian Pottery, Swansea. The Swansea version is heavier with less well defined features and there is no boat in the top right of the picture. This well executed example, whilst unmarked, is the version by Mellor Venables & Co of Hole House Pottery, Burslem, Staffordshire, England, in business from 1834 to 1851.
This is an absolutely gorgeous cheese stand. The face is as bright and clean as the day it was made. There is a restored small under-rim chip, which just shows to the face. A superb flow blue cheese stand. Dimensions: 27.5 cm diameter, 6.5 cm high / 10.75 ins diameter, 2.5 ins high
