| Maker: Meir Pattern:Ornithology Footbath c1850 Grand footbath made by John Meir & Son of Greengates Pottery, Tunstall, Staffordshire, active 1837 to 1897. Printed in a pale blue the interior has two American eagles perched on a tree branch set within a rocky, mountainous landscape with lake. The outside has four identical vignettes with an American eagle perched on a crag in a similar setting, with large waterfalls in the background, which have been suggested as the Niagara Falls.
Backstamp: blue printed ribbon around eagle, with Ornithology and J Meir & Son.
There is some wear and crazing to the glaze, with minor marking or staining here and there. Inside is a star hairline, which does not go through. Overall, this footbath is in excellent condition and survived remarkably well.
Dimensions: 53 x 37.5 cm & 23 cm deep / 21 x 14.75 ins & 9 ins deep
