Meat Dish or Platter Gorhambury Hertfordshire c1825
John Meir of Greengates Pottery, Tunstall. This is a popular series of views and on this platter is Gorhambury, which is near St Albans in Hertfordshire. Gorhambury House was built in the Palladian style in 1777-84, to replace an earlier Elizabethan house, which was left to decay nearby. In 1652 the estate had come into the Grimston family and Gorhambury is today the home of John Duncan Grimston, 7th Earl of Verulam and his family. Typical blue printed backstamp of crown over panel containing Gorhambury, Hertfordshire, all framed by laurel boughs. Impressed 16. Some utensil marks to face, small restored rim chip at 8 o'clock and a sliver of glaze lost behind the top rim. The glaze is sound, so a bright and clean example.
Dimensions: 43 x 33.5 cm / 17 x 13.25 ins

Dish small c1825
Delightful small dish with side handles. No backstamp. There is wear to the rim and handles resulting in loss of glaze in parts. Underneath there is a little discolouration and under one handle three small chips. None of this however really detracts from what is a pretty little dish.
Dimensions: 15 cm x 10 cm & 3 cm deep / 6 ins x 4 ins & 1.25 ins deep
