Maker: Meigh  Pattern:British Cathedrals
Sauce Tureen Stand c1840
Charles Meigh was at the Old Hall Works, Hanley, Staffordshire from 1832 to 1850. His British Cathedrals series is rare, even rarer than the Carey series. A view of St Pauls is recorded and this is the first recorded piece depicting Canterbury Cathedral and features as such in the Friends of Blue records. Has a blue printed cartouche on the back with the words British Cathedrals Canterbury CM and the impressed mark Improved Stone China with C Meigh and Hanley in Greek. The glaze is lightly crazed and a few age blemishes but really it is in excellent condition. A pretty piece, with its moulded side handles picked out in darker blue, and of great rarity.
Dimensions: 17.5 cm d 19.5 cm across handles / 7 ins d 7.75 ins across handles
