| Maker: Mayer Pattern:Garden Scenery Ewer c1855 This ewer is decorated with one the scenes from the Garden Scenery series pattern, which is usually associated with TJ & J Mayer of Burslem active 1843-1855, although unusually this ewer does not have their typical printed backstamp. We have attributed it to Mayer, but there remains a question mark. On the broad border design there are areas where the transfer dragged, which has blurred the print a little. There is a short stress line in the clay on one side, which occured during firing, and there are two faint star cracks, one each side of the bottom towards the base. These are mainly visible inside and appear to go through only in part. General appearance though is fine, all bright and clean and on display it looks perfect.
