Dinner Plate c1835
By Thomas Mayer of Cliff Bank Works, Stoke 1826 to 1835 and Brook Street, Longport 1836 to 1838. The pattern is of a prominent classical urn set in a romantic, imaginary landscape. It may have been inspired by Antonio Canova (1757-1822), who was an Italian sculptor working in the neo-classical style. He lived and worked in England for many years and was a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy. After his death Countess Albrizzi published The Works of Canova in 1824, which was a catalogue of the sculptures he had created for English patrons. Mayer's Canova pattern consists of a series of similar, but different views applied to different items. Tiny blemish in glaze, otherwise lovely condition. Blue printed cartouche of urn on a plinth, which incorporates the words Canova and Stoneware.

Ewer and Bowl c1830
By Thomas Mayer of Cliff Bank Works, Stoke 1826 to 1835 and Brook Street, Longport 1836 to 1838. A wonderful ewer and bowl, the bowl with full pattern both inside and out. The pattern may have been inspired by Antonio Canova (1757-1822), an Italian sculptor. He lived and worked in England for many years and was a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy. Mayer's Canova pattern consists of a series of similar, but different views applied to different items. No backstamp. The bowl has some wear to the rim and underneath to the foot rim. The foot rim also has a manufacturing fault which has been glazed and inside there is some surface scratching. The ewer has a little light crazing and underneath a little wear, overall though excellent condition. Ewer holds 3.75 pint.
Dimensions: Ewer 25.5 cm high bowl 33.5 cm diameter 11 cm deep / Ewer 10 ins high bowl 13 ins diameter 4.25 ins dee

Wash Bowl c1835
Lovely large bowl with wavy rim from a toilet set. No backstamp, but this pattern is attributed to Thomas Mayer. There is surface scratching inside, the outer rim is worn and quite pitted. There is a very small chip to the foot which also has signs of wear and under the flared rim there is a small firing crack. Sounds awful but inspite of showing its age is a very pretty bowl!
Dimensions: 33 cm diameter, 12.5 cm high / 13 ins diameter, 5 ins high
