Maker: Mayer  Pattern:Arms of the States Series
Plate c1830 New York
Wonderful plate printed in a rich dark blue from the Arms of the States Series by Thomas Mayer of Stoke on Trent and Longport, Staffordshire, active 1826 to 1838. The New York state arms adopted in 1809 are shown, although not totally accurately, before the Hudson River and flanked by Liberty and Justice, with the text New York Excelsior. The series is also known as Arms of American States and this plate simply as New York. Backstamp: blue printed E Pluribus Unum. Surface scratching and wear, some loss of glaze and a little discolouration to the outer rim. On the back there is a little damage and discolouration to the foot rim. Oh dear, makes this plate sound far worse than it looks!
Dimensions: 25 cm / 9.75 ins
