| Maker: Masons Pattern:British Lakes Series Soup Tureen Derwentwater c1835 Made by Charles James Mason & Co of Fenton Works, Lane Delph, Staffordshire. One of the famous Mason family. This is an extremely large tureen with stand and cover, which has a large and ornate finial. The view on the stand is Derwentwater in Cumbria. There is a different scene on the tureen itself, repeated on both sides, of an unidentified lake and on the cover the view is again of Derwentwater.
Backstamp: Blue printed Crown over British Lakes New Stone China Derwentwater.
The stand is crazed with discolouration and there is a hairline underneath to the foot. The tureen is also crazed with discolouration inside. Both handles have stress cracks and one also has a small hairline. The cover with its fabulous finial is crazed, with a small chip to the inside rim and a stress crack underneath by the handle join. As usual sounds much worse than it looks! On display most of the defects are hidden and it is a fine imposing set.
Dimensions: Tureen 26 cm diameter / Tureen 10.25 ins diameter
