This is one of at least four different scenes in this design, which was produced first by Elijah Jones and then by Maling from about 1850, when they apparently acquired the printing plates. The scenes are derived from engravings in a book published in 1825, which although entitled Egypt Delineated had Denon's Egypt on the spine and was the work of Baron Dominique Vivant Denon, who had accompanied Napoleon on his attempt to annex Egypt in 1798. Backstap: C T MALING impressed and blue printed DENONS EGYPT over C. T. M.
