Soup Tureen Stand c1825
This is such a wonderful shape. Actually the stand for a soup tureen but a most unusual and eyecatching piece on its own. There is a little wear around the outer rim and a little roughness to the stilt marks otherwise in superb condition. Blue printed backstamp: Ponte Rotto.

Sauce Tureen Stand c1825

Plate c1825
Depicted in this scene is the River Tiber and what remains of the oldest stone bridge over the river linking Forum Boarium with Trastevere in Rome. Originally called Pons Aemilius (Ponte Emilio in modern Italian)and built in the 2nd Century BC, it was formed of six or seven spans. The eastern half was carried away in a flood in 1598 and subsequently the remaining half was renamed the Ponte Rotto or Broken Bridge. Most of the western half was demolished in the 1880s leaving just one arch standing mid-stream. Backstamp: Ponte Rotto. There are a couple of feint lines in the printing where the transfer tore as it was applied and on the back a little minor wear, overall excellent condition.
Dimensions: 25.5 cm / 10 ins
