Plate pierced rim c1830
These plates turn up rarely and are attributed to James Keeling of New Street Pottery, Hanley, who was active 1790 to 1832. A plate identical in style and decorated with Keeling's Views in Mesopotamia is illustrated in Staffordshire Romantic Transfer Patterns by P Williams and M R Weber Vol II page 538. That plate also has a solid blue body and black printed scene. The view of Clare College is based on an 1819 engraving by William Mason and depicts the range of Old Court facing the river with Kings College Chapel behind. Excellent condition with bright sound glaze. No maker's backstamp.
