Custard or Syllabub Cups Set of Six c1840
A rare find indeed 6 cups in good condition. The design is of Middle Eastern scenes including people and animals. They were made by David Johnston and Company of Bordeaux France where David Johnston started his pottery in 1834 and sold out in 1844. Born of English parents Johnston was Mayor of Bordeaux from 1838 to 1842. These cups represent a piece of ceramic history. Transferware in the style of Staffordshire made by an Englishman in France. All are in good condition, but notice one intriguing oddity. Johnston must have had two handle fixers. One fixed the handles at the top of the cup and the other fixed his a bit lower down. All six available as unique set.
