Maker: Holmes Plant and Maydew  Pattern:Chester
Ewer c1883
Holmes Plant and Maydew of Sylvester Pottery, Burslem were in business from 1876 to 1885. This ewer is in the aesthetic style, both in shape and decoration, and the printed registration diamond shows that the design was registered under patent number 392725 on 12 January 1883. The glaze is crazed and there is some light staining, mainly around the neck, plus a couple of hairlines running down from the rim, which has some rubbing and had a minor knock. Also a chip under the foot rim, which does not show. Looks better than it sounds, but we always tell it as it is. Blue printed registration diamond and Chester, H P & M, B.
Dimensions: 6 ltr 32 cm high / 10.5 pints 12.5 ins high
