| Maker: Hicks and Meigh Pattern:British Views Series Meat Dish or Platter with tree and well c1825 Comb Bank(e) is at Sundridge near Sevenoaks in Kent. The house was built in the 1720s and since 1924 has been used as an independent girls school and more recently also as a wedding venue. British Views Series comprises some 14 different scenes and no piece has ever been found with a maker's backstamp, although the series has recently been attributed to Hicks and Meigh largely on the strength of commonality of shapes with other patterns known to be by Hicks and Meigh.
Blue printed backstamp with British Views on a fancy ribbon. Provenance the Otto Collection with label and item number 722.
This is a magnificent tree and well platter, however, at some time the top third parted company from the rest and a long hairline formed along the line of the well. It has been re-assembled and restored. It has been done well and from a distance all looks fine, but close-up it is obvious. The glaze is crazed and this has taken up some associated staining, mainly in the sky. Dimensions: 52.5 x 41 cm / 20.75 x 16.25 ins

| Maker: Hicks and Meigh Pattern:British Views Series Comport c1820 This is an absolutely gorgeous piece, beautifully decorated both inside and out. British Views Series comprises some 14 different scenes, although the location of these two views have not been identified. There is one view inside the bowl and another on the outside, which is repeated on both sides. This view is also found on the soup tureen in this series. British Views has never been found with a maker's backstamp, but has recently been attributed to Hicks and Meigh largely on the strength of commonality of shapes with other patterns known to be by Hicks and Meigh.
Backstamp: Printed ribbon cartouche with British Views.
Light all over crazing to the glaze, plus a small area of restoration underneath near the rim at one end. On one side on the outside the glaze has run done and there are streaks in the print, mainly in the sky. Under the foot a little wear and a small chip. Looks fine on display!
