Plate Willersley Castle c1820
Willersley Castle is in Derbyshire and was built for Sir Richard Arkwright, who built the first mass-production factory using a water powered spinning machine to make cotton thread or yarn for the weaving industry. He died in 1792 prior to his home's completion. Willersley Castle is now a hotel. Backstamp: Impressed Heathcote & Co. On the back there is some wear and discolouration to the rim and foot rim and also to the rim a chip of approx ¼”. The face of the plate has a little minor surface scratching and a little minor pitting to the rim. Overall a lovely plate and a good example of this pattern.
Dimensions: 25.5 cm / 10 ins
