Treacle Jar c1845
An unusual item from another era made by George Hawley of Low Pottery, Rawmarsh (1840-1863) and Northfield Pottery, Rotherham (1855-18630), both Yorkshire. This jar has a screw top and both top and jar have an incised 3 to make sure the right top and jar ended up together after firing in the kiln. There is crazing with staining particularly to the handle, possibly from being handled by treacle covered hands! There is also a small chip and possible tight hairline to the rim of the jar. Blue printed backstamp with pattern name Douro and initials GH for George Hawley. Marked pieces by Hawley are rare.
Dimensions: 15 cm high / 6 ins high
