Spode are believed to have been the first to produce this design in 1823. It was copied by at least five other makers and the original name was The Font or simply Font. This plate is by C & J Harvey of Longton active 1818 to 1827. Backstamp: Impressed HARVEY. A little minor surface scratching and it is crazed with some discolouration, although this is mainly on the back. Overall a fabulous plate.

This plate is by C & J Harvey of Longton active 1818 to 1827. Backstamp: impressed HARVEY. Provenance: The personal collection of Gresham Copeland, passing by descent to his son Robert Copeland. Collection identification label on back AGC 410. The glaze is finely crazed in some areas and there is the lightest of associated staining in a small area on the face, but other more noticeable patchs on the back. The ring of the foot rim has a few minor knocks. Overall good condition and looks fine on display.
