Maker: Davenport  Pattern:Rustic Scenes Series
Meat Dish or Platter Woman and Boy c1815
An absolutely stunning dish with a charming rural scene surrounded by a bold floral border. Rustic Scenes is aeries of different views and this one depicts a woman with a sheaf of corn on her head, a boy with firewood and a small dog returning home Backstamp: Davenport above an anchor. A hairline to the rim at 7 o'clock has been professionally restored and there is a light all over crazing and a little wear to the inner rim resulting in a very little loss of glaze here and there. Overall a fabulous piece.
Dimensions: 54 cm x 41 cm / 21.5 ins x 16.25 ins
Maker: Davenport  Pattern:Rustic Scenes Series
Plate Watermill c1820
There are at least 20 different scenes in this series pattern, of which 3 are of a watermill and this particular scene appears in 2 versions. On smaller plates there is a windmill to the right of the watermill and on larger plates, as here, a distant village. The series is believed to have been introduced early in the 1820s and remained in production over a long period. Backstamp is an impressed curved Davenport, which is a relatively rare Davenport backstamp and believed to have been used from about 1800 to 1820. There is a blob of blue from the printing process on the rim at 2 o'clock, which is visible in the photograph. The glaze is finely crazed, but otherwise this plate is in superb condition.
Dimensions: 24.5 cm / 9.75 ins
