| Maker: Cormie Pattern:Lyme Castle Jug or Pitcher c1825 John Cormie of Burslem was active 1818 to 1834/6 and to date has not had the recognition he deserves. He made quality wares at the Bell Works and from 1831 at the large Nile Street works, later to be home to Doulton.
The source print for this scene has not been identified, although it has been suggested that it might be Lympne Castle in Kent, but it bears little resemblance to Lympne, which stands on a hill. However, there are similarities with the view used by Woods of Lympne Castle, so it may be one and the same.
Blue printed cartouche backstamp with Lyme Castle and the initials I C incorporated.
Other than a little wear to the rim, this jug is in superb condition. Dimensions: 1.9 ltr 17 cm high / 3 pts 6.75 ins high
