| Maker: Chetham Pattern:Chinese Pagoda Wash Bowl c1845 This bowl is attributed to Jonathan Lowe Chetham of Commerce Steet, Longton active 1841 to 1862, from the initials JC in the backstamp. Usually the initials JC are attributed to Joseph Clementson, but the Chetham, Robinson & Son partnership, which preceded Jonathan Lowe Chetham at Commerce Street are known to have produced ewers and wash bowls in this Chinese Pagoda pattern, with a similar backstamp. The eastern scene is printed in a bright blue and the potting of the ewer is quite "chunky". Chinese Pagoda was a pattern name used also by Bovey Tracey Pottery Co and Elkin Knight and Bridgwood, but any similarities between the patterns are slight.
