| Maker: Castleford Pottery Pattern:Verona Meat Dish or Platter c1860 There were several potteries at Castleford, Yorkshire and as their individual names and those of their owners are not generally well known, we use the generic maker title of Castleford for them all. This pattern is recorded as being made at the Eagle Pottery during the ownership of Hugh McDowall & Co active 1856 to 1862. There are many patterns similar to this one inspired by the Sculpture Galleries at Crystal Palace, re-erected at Sydenham, London in the 1852. As there is no maker's backstamp on this piece, attribution to Castleford cannot be certain.
The glaze is finely crazed and some signs of use, but overall clean and bright and in good condition. Dimensions: 34 x 29.5 cm / 13.5 x 11.5 ins
