| Maker: Carr Pattern:Chinese Marine Footbath c1845 This delectable footbath has the Chinese Marine design on the outside and inside on the base another design known as Park Scenery. A waisted footbath with the same two designs featured in Friends of Blue Bulletin No 68 and that was marked with the typical Chinese Marine backstamp with the letter G. This has the same type of backstamp, but with no initial.
The footbath in the Bulletin was tentatively attributed to Belle Vue Pottery of Hull, but we believe this footbath to be by John Carr of Low Lights Pottery, North Shields, Northumberland.
There are two old chips to the rim, one visible in the photograph and the other diagonally opposite. Some fine crazing to the glaze with a little associated staining here and there and a few glaze blemishes. Couple of small old chips to foot. Overall this is in good condition and the two chips would easily restore, if preferred.
Typical blue printed Chinese Marine cartouche backstamp, but with no makers initial.
