Maker: Bovey Tracey  Pattern:The Gem
Toast Water Jug c1845
A fabulous jug with an integral strainer and would originally have had a lid. Toast Water jugs were used for making a traditional cure-all liquid the basis of which was toast steeped in hot water! No backstamp. There is a hairline to the rim and discolouration underneath to the foot and a little minor discolouration to the pierced gate and to the base of the handle.
Dimensions: 1.05 ltr, 14.5 cm high / 1.75 pint, 5.75 ins high

Mug c1845
A beautiful example of an early 19th century mug, finely potted with moulded ends to the handle. Printed in shades of light and mid blue with a delightful rural scene of two couples dancing round a Maypole and other country people raking and harvesting with sickles. Despite the scenes of agricultural activity everyone appears to be dressed in their Georgian Sunday best! We have come across this pattern before on a toast water jug of similar good quality and it is usually attributed to the Bovey Tracey Pottery Company and is their The Gem pattern. Marked examples are known. There is no backstamp or other marking to this mug. Apart from a few minor signs of wear this mug is in superb condition and a rare survivor.
Dimensions: 12 cm high 9.5 cm diameter / 4.75 ins high 3.625 ins diameter
