Maker: Adams  Pattern:Bluebell Border Series
Meat Dish or Platter Windsor Castle c1825
William Adams of Stoke active 1804 to 1829 made the Bluebell Border Series, which consists of some 19 different named scenes. This is Windsor Castle, Berkshire and is printed in a luscious deep blue. James & Ralph Clews produced a similar series, with the same border, but generally different views. For the botanists the flowers in the border that give the series its name look more like snakeshead fritillaries, rather than bluebells. Backstamp: impressed Adams Warranted Staffordshire with eagle and blue printed floral cartouche containing Windsor Castle, Berkshire. Provenance: The personal collection of Gresham Copeland, passing by descent to his son Robert Copeland. Collection identification label on back AGC E12. The glaze is finely crazed and has taken up just a touch of light staining in places, but only really noticeable on the back. The glaze is a bit "gritty" in places, but this is from manufacture. Overall a dramatic platter in excellent condition.
